I went on to work in computers and at age 24, with three business partners, formed Flexilink Computer Services. Our company provided the technology needs for a broad range of professional services companies, including accounting firms, law firms, architectural practices, financial planners, and the Royal Australian Institute of Architects (Victoria).
Working on the technology at the heart of businesses led to numerous opportunities to improve the inner workings of various companies, and by age 27 I was also managing a publishing business and the Moyne Gazette (Port Fairy’s local paper).
My career has not been a string of continuous successes, one after another – but it has certainly been endless learning opportunities. In fact, I learned some of my most valuable lessons during the most difficult times.
During my career I have owned or managed I.T. businesses, a marketing agency, publishing house, web development firm, bookkeeping company, and a signage and large format digital print company. I’ve managed a team of researchers in an Innovation Lab in Cambodia, and consulted to numerous companies in manufacturing, retail, hospitality, technology, education, and professional services. I’ve worked with the non-profit sector in Australia and South-East Asia.
